The Step of Foundation, or Pazunia to the demons, was the inaugural world brought into existence by a Creationist named Piranoth. It represented the initial realm of a system that would briefly be referred to as Piranoth's Steps. Eventually, under the dominion of demons and their lords, it would attain greater notoriety as the Abyss.

The theories and intricacies of constructing an entire system of worlds are unfathomable to the majority of beings. The Creationists have left traces of this in monuments, writings, and artifacts dispersed across the multiverse. The general consensus is that the process of world-making is profoundly complex. The most vexing aspect of their creation is that these worlds take on attributes of their own, which, if not properly regulated, may result in a realm that conflicts with the alignment of its creator.

Often constructed from the raw energies of Chaos, systems can develop a life of their own. When a system veers too far to the extreme, it becomes an arena of either absolute perfection or absolute destruction. The demons that have overrun Piranoth's Steps strive to transform it into an abyssal pit of pure chaos and evil, while the angels, having performed their good deed of bestowing some harmony upon the mortal realm, have turned other systems to extremes that align with their ethical and moral perspectives. This is precisely the outcome we sought to prevent, and the reason we initiated the Creation War - to keep creation out of the hands of those who would bend it to their will.

What was learned from the creation of this world would be utilized to produce subsequent worlds within the system. Piranoth, either impulsive at the time or overeager to commence work on another world, appears to have made the error of generating inter-world rifts for each successive world he constructed. These rifts served to channel energy and matter from Chaos to the world under development, thereby significantly accelerating the construction process.

The Step of Foundation appears to have been corrupted by the rifts to the other worlds. The Hirstyr Signir monolith bears inscriptions indicating that over thousands of years, the very world absorbed corrupting energy, including malevolent life forces, that perished across Piranoth's Steps. This dark energy sank to the first world, coalesced, and then spread outward along the rifts, like tendrils of corrupting darkness. These tendrils were evil energies that fused with the chaotic energies of Chaos, a phenomenon described by Bruh Kreniik as the Threads of Damnation. These "threads" were tendrils of chaotic energy that worked their way outward from the Step of Foundation and then across all the worlds of the Abyss.
