In the Maziggandîm Conflict, the inhabitants of the surface city Tarband-Khâl were defeated and subsequently driven from their homes. The displaced refugees then headed for the vast sinkhole known as Zurukthûr. While some simply followed the crowd, others had fallen under sinister influences. These individuals ventured into the Underdark region of Unaraggumak, with some traveling eastward to the mining center of Munarkûn and others settling to the west, where they founded the settlement of Dushinbal. The founders of Dushinbal chose this location due to its strategic advantages. First, the Igulâd Plunge provided a ready supply of fish, which they could easily supplement with their discarded food and waste, attracting an abundance of marine life for their fishing endeavors. Secondly, the Earth Seam, an established commercial trade route said to span the globe, passed through the area. Lastly, they had access to the mineral resources of Zurukthûr and the diplomatic support of their Salamander allies. The 5,000 individuals who established Dushinbal were persuaded by a compelling speech that highlighted these favorable conditions, convincing them to build their town over the perceived safety of Munarkûn's walls. The mastermind behind this oration was the first mortal disciple of Baalzebul, who sought to demonstrate the worthiness of his lord through the success of the settlement. Dushinbal experienced remarkable growth, and with it, the growing influence of Baalzebul.

Over the following millennia, the populace of Dushinbal and Munarkûn were converted to diabolical worship. The Turkûn of these Underdark settlements, collectively known as the Mîmêk, began to undergo a transformation. It is said that malevolent powers conspired, exposing them to infernal energies in the same manner as the devils were created. The Mîmêk experienced bodily changes, with their skin and hair turning a dull gray, some becoming bald, and their beards transforming from hair to spiny quills. They gained numerous boons from their diabolic taint - heightened stealth and alertness, spell-like abilities, and an immunity to paralysis, phantasms, and many types of poisons. They had been transformed into the Duergar race.

The city's southern ramparts survey expansive farmlands that provide nourishment for a million denizens. To the east, Lake Arkan-Ragûma serves as an additional source of sustenance for the populace.
