The Earth Seam is a subterranean channel of earthen elemental matter that flows like a sluggish river. On the world of Bal-Kriav, a Creationist named Benevolence utilized this river in the crafting of the world surrounding it.

Where a river flows, the Earth Seam is a current of sand and stone. Resulting from collisions and perpetual erosion, a significant portion of this material is the finest sand.

In the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), the Earth Seam served as a vital conduit for transporting supplies and troops to remote battlefronts. Security and logistical support were provided by legions of Earthen under the command of Geb, a reluctant yet essential ally of the Covenant.

One of the earliest peoples to utilize the Earth Seam as a means of settling distant lands were the gnomes. Fleeing the demons overtaking Hezmort, these Svirfneblin passed into the Krephus Sink and then onward to the Earth Seam. Others who employed this route were the Akthol and the Tharag. In 310 LE, they formed a joint expedition with settlers from each clan. Departing from God Anvil Launch, they were carried along the earthen flow. After traversing several Seam Portals, they established the settlement of Felak.

Early travel along this elemental river was facilitated by barges. These vessels were constructed by earth elementals, who then offered to tow and pilot their customers along the river in exchange for gems. In the First Epoch, a Lith-Crillion research vessel drifted ashore near the God Anvil Launch. Devoid of crew, this ghostly ship was studied at Khulbarazâr. The insights gained from this investigation led to the invention of the Mhornar Skree, or Dirt Barge.

Navigation through the earth seam is relatively straightforward - simply travel alongside the towering boulders, unless they collide with the seam spires, which can pose a challenge. Traversing upstream differs from sailing a ship, as the wind does not propel one through this elemental medium. Instead, it necessitates the use of shadow magic and the taming of earth elementals. These workers will then physically drag the vessel through the seam at a slow yet reasonably safe pace. This is why the Mhornar Skree ships feature wedge-shaped sterns and aft sections, each reinforced with sturdy welds and blessed by Danzar-Khâl. As for securing the assistance of earth elementals, they willingly accept metals and gems, which they consume but do not digest, as they do not function like flesh and blood - a peculiar custom even for their kind.

On the journey, we traversed countless corridors and crossed expansive caverns, where many days elapsed before the passage narrowed back to its customary dimensions. The diverse array of peoples and civilizations we encountered far exceeded our initial expectations.

Geb had the power to generate earth seams, acting as a counterforce to the fiery schemes of Surtur and his Great Vein.

Seam Portals

The Earth Seam possesses entry and exit points known as Seam Portals. Traversing one can transport you to distant realms. Prior to the Second Epoch, the reverse journey - returning through these portals - was achievable solely by Earthen beings. This limitation was overcome with the emergence of specialized Mhornar Skree termed Nalgu Skree. This ship type, extremely costly to construct and maintain, can navigate Seam Portals bidirectionally.
