The Krephus Sink is a massive bore hole that begins in the desert of Chen'ryon. It cuts through the surface and then into the depths of Goulnacus, extending across numerous other Underdark regions. This hole, like the desert of Chen'ryon, was created by a primordial worm named Krephus. During the Creation War, this colossal purple worm bored through the Web of Magic, allowing it to escape the Step of Foundation and cross over to Bal-Kriav. As it dug into the ground, it left a ridged shaft that now serves as a route between the dark reaches and the surface. During its descent, the worm devoured sand, stone, iron, silver, and anything else in its path, leaving a trail of debris that initially spread upward and outward, forming the desert of Chen'ryon. At a depth of -10,000 feet, the shaft bends eastward and continues on a flat plane, northward for thousands of miles. Somewhere beneath the continent of Amachan, the Krephus Sink bends westward and gradually ascends until it reaches a depth of -5,000 feet under Gumar. In this area, it zig-zags for a hundred miles before ending where Krephus died of exhaustion.
At a depth of five miles, the shaft makes a turn, with a significant portion obscured by sand. It curves eastward, extending far into the distance, running beneath both oceans and landmasses. The passage consists of gravel and sand, compacted by the countless entities that have traversed it as a thoroughfare. In regions where Krephus encountered water, subterranean rivers of earth, and lava, she navigated over or under these obstacles.
Our flight from Jurusalax traversed regions of loose, quicksand-like terrain, and navigated through narrower passages that had been either constructed or were currently being excavated by her progeny.
I returned to Krephus Sink after several years and discovered the purple worms now utilized it as a breeding ground. The locals reported they return annually, with some traversing considerable distances, unhesitantly assaulting any obstructing their path.
