Krephus was a colossal primordial purple worm. She was an offspring of Hon'palos. Her creator sought to utilize Krephus's progeny as living war chariots and siege engines in the Morte'lumin War. Consequently, Krephus sought escape. She found this opportunity when she came upon a rupture in the fabric of the Web. A pregnant and near-spawning Krephus burrowed into this anomaly. She escaped the Step of Foundation, traversed the Web of Magic, and arrived on Bal-Kriav. In the region of Zythess on this world, she began to tunnel into the ground, creating a massive bore hole, a desert, and a passage in the Underdark that spans continents and oceans. This bore hole is known as the Krephus Sink, a marvel of immense size at its point of descent from the surface and the vast distance it covers beneath Bal-Kriav.
Krephus's demise occurred on the world of Bal-Kriav. It is believed she perished from exhaustion while disseminating her purple worms across the subterranean expanses of this realm, in the hopes that Hon'palos could never collect them all. Upon her death, her body began to harden, a result of a spell cast by Hon'palos. This spell was intended to preserve her remains so that he could resurrect her once found. However, Hon'palos never recovered the body, as even if he could reach Bal-Kriav, he likely would have been unable to transport her or convince her to return with him. Krephus's body transformed into an elemental stone of diamond-like hardness. The area encompassing her body, measuring 900 feet in length and 60 feet in diameter, marks the end of a tunnel known as the Krephus Passage. Many who traverse the final 900 feet of this tunnel remain unaware that they are passing through the petrified remains of a primordial purple worm.
