Kyvax Guthor

Category Marvels
Continent Brucrumus
Region Ice Cap
Location Mogdúlg
Built Horgon Era

Hovering above the streets and structures of Mogdúlg is the Kyvax Guthor, the Palace of Mogdúlg. It bears a striking resemblance to a mountainside. The gravity plane for those within is akin to the base of a mountain pressed against the earth. Consequently, if observed from the side, one would witness guards standing perpendicular to the viewer.

In Primordial, the term "Kyvax" denotes a 'ruling place, throne, or palace'. The second part of the name, "Guthor," originates from the Giant language. During the Horgon Era, a Gadstill cartographer designated one of Molfath's peaks as "Kuthor." Legends suggest that the stone giant surveyor, without any children of his own, named it to honor his brother's eldest son.

In 1296, a perpetual storm of chaos, the Chaos Maelstrom, inundated Mogdúlg and the vast valley of Hleittil. The aftermath left a transformed and distorted landscape. Objects, creatures, and the very environment had been infused with chaos. Floating masses of rock that defy gravity, eddies of air that twist and turn endlessly on the ground or in midair, fires burning without fuel, and perhaps most captivating of all, waterfalls cascading from seemingly nowhere, plummeting down from clouds and even flowing upwards before plunging back down like geysers.

When Mogdúlg became Neeth-Theen 's capital, explorers were dispatched to locate a suitable site for the empire's new palace. A contemplative chaos aberration named Ingennen emerged victorious in the search, discovering a floating mountain in the peaks of Molfath. This floating mountain, an earth mote, was then towed by an army of slaves to the capital and hollowed out.

The chain gradually pulls in the direction of an immense, honeycombed rock formation, a mountainous structure resting on its side. This colossal structure appears to defy the constraints of gravity, floating effortlessly.

Grarg, capable of perceiving all that Rax experiences, exclaims, "What a remarkable sight!"

Rax gazes beyond the city, his eyes drawn to the distant, twisted and misshapen Molfath mountains, ten miles away. Remarkably, several of these peaks lie on their sides, yet they have not collapsed under their own immense weight, as if gravity itself has been inverted and now pulls from the underside of the overturned mountains. Refocusing, Rax regards the floating mountaintop before him as the gondola abruptly halts. He is well-acquainted with the sky islands that dot the Bal-Kriav region, scattered and frequently remote. The sale of these diminutive sky islands comprises one of the most lucrative exports for his empire. For those able to afford them, the islands are transformed into floating fortresses or private retreats for the wealthy elite. Yet none in Azrik rival the sheer scale of the one now in his sight.

Rax states to Grarg, "Relocating a sky island of this colossal magnitude would have necessitated the collective efforts of a hundred thousand individuals."

Grarg remains silent, his thoughts focused on the honeycombed mountain, hovering above potential threats. He ponders, "If I were still a dragon, this majestic abode would be my sanctuary."

Rax traverses a labyrinthine corridor, one of numerous pathways leading into the formidable Palace of Mogdúlg. To his surprise, no sentries stand guard at the entrance. Likewise, the interior of the floating mountain remains devoid of the countless watchmen typically stationed throughout. "Has he deployed his palace guard to the frontlines as well?"

Rax enters a hall teeming with aberrations. Dozens of them move about aimlessly. This scenario differs from the typical court protocol, which dictates passing a series of guards, potentially followed by a few, and entering a room with court attendees standing in place, rather than wandering.
