Moolowik originated as a processing center for captives destined for the First Toadoolp Twist. At that time, this Toadoolp Twist was an Entropic Pond, transforming Kuo-toa from those cast into it. Under the leadership of Blibdoolpoolp, their creator and the Lord of Oomkaan, Moolowik evolved into a substantial town of Kuo-toan and their slaves. Of the latter, the majority were demons serving Athroond, Blibdoolpoolp's former superior.

After Blibdoolpoolp departed the mortal realm, the Toadoolp Twists were transformed. Pools used for Kuo-toa creation became gateways to new lands. Places like Moolowik and Blipool evolved into substantial, partially submerged citadels, regulating traffic passing through these rifts. In 411 LE, under the Âkhi Empire, these rifts were first utilized for population control; the empire dispatching excess populace to serve as the burden of some distant colony. Long regarded as a second-tier, military-focused city, Moolowik was economically suppressed due to lacking any resource to provide the empire. They operated at a continuous deficit, sustained solely by commerce from the empire's other holdings.

Moolowik's fortunes underwent a dramatic shift on 526 LE. The passing of Boggleen, the Third Empress of Âkhi, marked a significant transition in power. The new ruler, the Unstable One, conceived an ambitious project to expand their living space. Titled the Buldapus Channel, this colossal undertaking would span across multiple reigns, with construction lasting for a millennium. As a result, Moolowik transformed into a supply depot, a respite for workers, and a bustling marketplace catering to a workforce of twenty thousand. The city evolved into a prominent urban center, rivaling the grandeur of Oomkaan.
