The city of Rumaktharga was established in 841 by the Fargimdal kingdom. Between 920 and 1120, the expansive, seemingly sentient growth of Taurquion gradually separated the lands of Rumaktharga from the rest of Fargimdal. Initially, the dwarves burned the vegetation and felled the timber, preserving vital supply lines and military routes between the kingdom and this remote eastern city. However, as Taurquion 's Tendrils continued their course, the dwarves abandoned the futile efforts of deforestation. Meanwhile, Rúmil attacks grew in strength as the forest expanded southward, ultimately resulting in a dwarven enclave (the Kizan valley) surrounded by elven-dominated territories. In 1128, Fargimdal could no longer effectively protect and govern the city, leading them to permit the dwarves to secede and become an independent city-state.

Today, the dwarves routinely undertake guerrilla and suicide attacks on the elven holdings surrounding Kizan. The resilient dwarves of this city-state have proven unconquerable by the elves. Military strategists cite two primary reasons for this: firstly, the remote location in a rugged valley with numerous fortified walls and strongholds.

Rumaktharga sits nestled within a valley, its boundaries defined by the towering, rugged mountains that rise up on all sides. Narrow valleys interspersed throughout the region offer formidable defensive positions, rendering any attempted assault an arduous and costly endeavor.

The second reason is the Brother Tunnels. These subterranean passages traverse miles of elven lands, beneath the Khizan Tendril of the great forest Taurquion, and under the rugged terrain separating Rumaktharga from their kinsmen in the Clans. The tunnels host several railroads, constructed by the Fargimdal. The Kizan Line railroad enables the swift transport of troops and supplies to the embattled dwarves of Rumaktharga.

Because of their perpetual state of war with the Angrods, Rumaktharga has become a training ground and preferred destination for acquiring combat experience. It also serves as a sanctuary for numerous mercenary companies, arms merchants, and the unsavory elements associated with such activities, including thieves' guilds, assassins' guilds, and other less reputable groups. The city's earth giants hail from the nearby Hambrimoth Hills and are employed as skilled artisans, elite guards, and for arduous labor, earning substantial compensation for their services.

Rumaktharga is a colossal fortification situated near the core of Kizan. Its strategic placement within the elven territories has facilitated the construction of formidable walls and multi-tiered towers, bristling with Bearded Belly mortars and other siege weaponry. Beneath the city lie the Brother Tunnels , subterranean passages that extend to areas under dwarven dominion in the Gakhs.
