The Thyrms Breath are intervals of severe cold, minor ice ages lasting for decades to centuries. One of these periods of intense frigidity spanned the years 1355 HE to 1555 HE. Impacting a region of Bal-Kriav known as Midreth, it resulted in substantial loss of life.
In the initial phase of Bal-Kriav's lesser ice ages, known as the Thyrms Breath, a highly advanced civilization named the Durkoth mysteriously vanished. Scratch coral from a sahuagin slave, uncovered at Limac-Nîr, inscribed the ominous words: 'The masters, the Durkoth, descended into the depths of the city, sequestering themselves away.'
The aliens, an advanced people from a world lost to the mind flayers, currently reside in deep ocean vaults or have departed for a more stable realm.
