The coastal settlement of Limac-Nîr was founded by those driven to the seas during the Durkoth Descent, which occurred between 995 HE and 1355 HE. Its settlers were approximately a thousand Durkoth who had abandoned their homes in and around the Spire of Neld-Rac. The arduous labor of constructing the grandiose Limac-Nîr was carried out by the Durkoth's aquatic slaves, the majority of whom were sahuagin. These fractious and warlike sahuagin had made their home in the undersea rifts of Rângilan since the Third Thane War, but their propensity for internal conflict had prevented them from becoming a significant regional force. The arrival of the Durkoth disrupted these longstanding patterns.
In their aquatic state, the Durkoth possess devastating sonic screams, a formidable weapon in the depths. They have skilled controllers, trained in the arts of psychic warfare, exerting dominance over threats and decision-makers.

In 1355 HE, the city's Durkoth, who had ruled for three centuries, secluded themselves within the innermost vaults. Unyielding and weary of waiting, the Sahuagin warred over the spoils. Reverting to their former ways of warmongering for its own sake, military dictatorships arose, with a dozen short-lived Sahuagin empires in succession.
The bustling city-state of Limac-Nîr, home to nearly 40,000 souls, sought a new outlet for their aggression. They launched raids upon the shipping lanes of the Kal-Oni Empire (1016 - 1266) as well as the unprotected settlements along the coasts of Hells Womb.
In 1315, in the deepest recesses of the city, explorers uncovered the Drums of Horgon. Played without restraint, the reverberating sound of war drums echoed across the depths, inciting many into a state of martial frenzy. This sparked the Sea Devil War (1315 - 1317), culminating in the depopulation and ruination of Limac-Nîr by a blast from the Pyramid of Merioss.
