The Shinszelmoggit clan, a prosperous Svirfneblin family, hails from the central region of Faeglor. The family gained recognition during the early years of the Isan-Kun era. Following their relocation to Mulun-Dûna, they acquired the farming rights to parcels along the Favánë River.

In Mulun-Dûna, the Shinszelmoggits transitioned to pig farming and the cultivation of surface vegetables beneath the open skies of Izen'nâth. For denizens of the Underdark, surface-grown fare, including pigs raised in the open sky, constitutes an exotic delicacy. The trade revenue accrued from these exotic foodstuffs rendered the Shinszelmoggits one of the most affluent families in the region.

In 1719, the Shinszelmoggits acquired the deed for Laughing Hairfoot and Fermin. They paid a substantial sum for a depleted mine and a small town, but few were aware that the deepest recesses of Laughing Hairfoot conceal portals to Granitoid. Despite Laughing Hairfoot being an exhausted mine, the portals lead to a realm where the silver veins possess a purity twice that of the original site. When the halflings discovered the mines and were astonished by their good fortune, they named them the Laughing Hairfoot mines. Now, it was the Shinszelmoggits who reaped the benefits of their savvy deal. The mines of Granitoid became known as the Laughing Pipes. These mines are perilous and require a robust security detail, an issue partially alleviated by the growing friendship between the miners and a dozen or so earth elementals.
