The Athena's Lanterns are a benevolent order that gained prominence as defenders of the Holy Sanctum, shielding pilgrims and travelers traversing the southern expanses of the Buruthran Plain and journeying southward into the Vale of Hûma-Nar.
In 1329, Athena's Lanterns invaded the witch sanctum of Ara'rya. Upon hearing the enemy's battle priests chanting and the thunderous approach of knights, the witches of Ara'rya unleashed a formidable demon named Dvr'jiss. Mistakenly, they believed he would aid them in vanquishing the holy inquisitors, who showed no mercy to those allied with demons. Instead, the demon slipped away under the veil of silence and invisibility magic.
Nearly half of the order was lost during the Luran Campaign (1481 - 1483). Following the collapse of the Holy Sanctum, the order reconvened and reorganized at Iglutt.
After the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551), the order relocated its headquarters to the city of Helmstar.
