Ghol Markúl is an archipelago that was once a singular landmass. In the Sundering of Ghol Markúl, the deity Poseidon fractured the island, creating several large islands and numerous smaller ones. At the time, Ghol Markúl hosted dozens of supply bases, a town, and other provisioning points that served the soldiers and ships of the Abâthigûr Empire. All of these were lost during the Sundering, hastening the conclusion of the Naudvar War.
Since the fall of Abâthigûr, the islands of Ghol Markúl have become a haven for bands of pirates. These islands are heavily fortified, posing a serious threat even to large empires attempting to navigate the island ring. The strongholds maintain a semi-vigilant watch against potential invasions or punitive strikes from the greater powers situated beneath and along the Sea of Mourning and the Pearl Sea. The League of Gyalech is the dominant force in this region, laying claim to the central island of Rest and its highly coveted Hullback resources.
