In 1206, with nearly two centuries of the Horn Tusk Conflict (1023 - 1467) drawing to a close, a band of Minotaur plunderers made off with tusks from a sacred burial site of the Elderaunt people. The incident occurred in Irastânâz, near the heart of the Izagunbar Region, a place where old and weathered elephants go to die (c.f. Ivory Sanctity).
The magnificent tusks were eventually sold at the renowned riverside markets of Merorarg, fetching astronomical prices that only the most affluent or the state could afford. The state ultimately acquired the prized possessions, after which the sellers departed and sailed into the treacherous waters of Thrawkrall, where they fell prey to the state-sponsored pirates of Ba'lith's domain.
The real revelation came much later, with evidence emerging in the Third Epoch that proved Ba'lith orchestrated the "gang of plunderers" who robbed Irastânâz. The seller's agent also worked for the government. The pirates and the intended "sacrifices" served the interests of Ba'lith's clandestine Division of Predatory Relations, carrying out aggressive actions, including high-level assassinations. The selling agent, her team, and the "sacrifices" were all killed in the pirate attack - the elderly, those burdened by debt, and those eager to serve the empire, knowing their families would be generously compensated.
All part of a scheme to get the people behind the state's objective of taking out the Torgilm Confederacy (1475 - 1719). Annually, Ba'lith fabricated reports of incidents that did not occur as claimed, with the north carrying out acts of aggression against the south. Threatening defenseless individuals, or soldiers trespassing, pilfering livestock, and a host of other accusations. That tusk throne, embedded in glass at the heart of Merorarg's Pentagonal Junction, became a unifying symbol that garnered greater support each year.
The city of Ilfongrak has long been a strategic hub for the Zormani Empire's eastern frontier Situated along major trade routes, the bustling metropolis serves as a vital center of commerce and military operations However, recent reports indicate a troubling state of affairs within the city's walls Reliable intelligence suggests that Ilfongrak has fallen victim to internal unrest and dissent Widespread civil discontent has manifested in public demonstrations and occasional clashes with imperial forces The root causes appear to be a combination of economic hardship, political marginalization, and resentment toward the Zormani's heavy-handed rule Furthermore, evidence points to the presence of subversive elements actively working to undermine the city's stability Whispers of a growing underground resistance movement, with ties to outside factions, have reached our sources These clandestine groups are allegedly orchestrating acts of sabotage and agitation, posing a direct challenge to the Zormani's authority The situation in Ilfongrak remains highly volatile, and the potential for further unrest or even open conflict looms large Immediate action may be required to quell the rising tide of dissent and reassert the Zormani Empire's control over this strategically vital region
The tusks taken from the burial site were employed in the construction of a new throne – the Throne of Broken Tusks. Ba'lith's stated goal was that the people's current throne, the Broken Horn Throne, would be replaced with a new one when all of Azrik stood proud under a single flag. It was a rallying message from the state to the people, a warmongering rhetoric that would lead to escalating conflict with the northern inhabitants of Azrik, culminating in the Brothers Enmity War (1697 - 1723), when all of Azrik was brought under the banner of the Ba'lith Empire, and under the rule of the one seated on the Throne of Broken Tusks.
