Founded by the Isharg clan of the destroyed Gimhak Empire (1306 HE - 1479), the settlement of Anarukthalan derived its substantial wealth primarily from the timber of Maar'tolaak and the copper, diamonds, and other valuable resources extracted from the peaks of Abazuddan.

In the Second Epoch, Anarukthalan and other Gimhak strongholds were the primary targets of the Orchish Empire. Anarukthalan also had to contend with other minor powers, including the Graagvrii of Sareon and their leader, a primal naga named Rilthang, as well as a green dragon called Mathongrarg and her hobgoblin horde.

In 1255, Anarukthalan succumbed to the domination of the Orchish Empire. Faced with the unrelenting peril posed by the inhabitants of the Maar'tolaak Forest, Anarukthalan was ultimately forsaken two years thereafter.

Anarukthalan has long been a subject of fascination for the green dragons of Maar'tolaak. When the settlement was inhabited, they came to ascertain if the rumors held truth - that it housed immense vaults overflowing with Covenant Coinage. After the Orchish Empire laid siege to the region, they attempted to refute this legend, asserting they discovered no "twelve golden vaults, each holding a dozen chests, 100,000 pieces each."
