Hloding begins atop the sky-island Gurnskolf. Long before they possessed sky ships, the giants of Gurnskolf utilized a forest of vines, the Kernsking Koils, as a means to descend from their cloud-obscured island. Down below on the surface, they raided and plundered the lowlanders, eventually establishing the empire Aslauthroa. This nation would come to dominate its neighbors, becoming masters of much of what the Khazarkar Empire controls today, the region Cinazan, and even expanding further underground, into the dark realm Faeglor.
The road is a significant and historic thoroughfare, constructed to enable travel from Gurnskolf to the lands below. Prior to its carving and vine-shaping, Gurnskolf raiders had to traverse uncertain, perilous terrain, either climbing or descending on foot. Witnessing the tragic loss of numerous companions, including one of their monarchs, over many years prompted them to undertake the road-building project.
The village of Hloding commences south of the city of Griddrir, situated within a mountain pass traversing the upper reaches of the Kernsking mountain range. The path then descends through a dense forest of vines, leading to another mountain pass in the lower Kernsking region (with the upper portion comprising the peaks atop Gurnskolf, and the lower being those along the southeastern border of Basskaff).
