The Kernsking mountains are situated near the heart of Âruk. Prior to the birth of Geb, the Kernskings formed an unbroken chain of peaks. When the Gurnskolf earth mote broke free from the surface and ascended into the sky, a portion of the mountains accompanied it (see Fylfhild). The central Kernskings now rest upon Gurnskolf, while the rift Basskaff lies below where those mountains once stood.
In the region between the sky-island Gurnskolf and the rift below, thousands of earth motes exist. Several of these are sizable enough to sustain vegetation and other organic matter. These fragments of floating land intertwine with a lattice of koil vines. The vines descend from Gurnskolf through these earth motes and then into the surface mountains. Some hang lazily even lower, dragging their tips along the rift's floor.
Before the emergence of skyships, the formidable giants of Gurnskolf utilized these vines, the Kernsking Koils, as thoroughfares to reach the surface. They would descend from their sky-island to demand tribute, raid, and plunder the lands below. Later, these vines would serve as the avenues of conquest for the armies of Aslauthroa.

Beside the region's mineral wealth, it is renowned for its fermented yak milk. This delicacy originates from the thousands of yaks that roam the slopes, as well as from local farms. Many individuals favor the taste of wild yak milk over the farm-raised variety. Regardless of the source, the concoction possesses a pungent aroma. It is distinguished by its long-lasting aftertaste, lasting for minutes in giants and hours in smaller humanoids.
