Âruk is an expansive grassy plain stretching northward from Damreth and far southeastward to Hullbreaker Bay. The region teems with an abundance of docile herd animals and their associated predators. Enormous reptiles, dinosaurs, and bipedal hunters such as the earth giants from Eylami and cloud and storm giants descending from Gindinâth inhabit the area. On the fringes are the hunting camps of gnolls, Mongrelfolk, lizardfolk, and Khazarars. To survive the more perilous herds, they maintain their fortified camps on the edges of Âruk, in the desolate wastes of Arnskar, the tangled depths of Nelaryotar, or other inhospitable terrain unsuitable for grazing.
Early in the Second Epoch, the Khazarkar Empire was expanding westward across Cinazan. Much like their predecessors, the Aslauthroans, the Eylami, observing the region's abundance, sought to establish a settlement where meat was plentiful. Regrettably, after enduring stampedes fueled by blind rage and occasional druidic undertones, the Khazarkars abandoned Âruk to the wild beasts.
The Yetat Camp, situated along the migratory path of the dire buffaloes, was devastated upon the return of the hunting party. The entire camp and a group of fifty individuals were trampled to oblivion, with their breastplates flattened beyond recognition. The camp was lost, and the inventory of fur and hides was completely ruined.
Zirik, journal entry of Hunting Party Leader out of Ardilthôr - "Dire Herds of Âruk"
In the northern region of Âruk, the sky island of Gindinâth casts deep shadows. Even so, true darkness never falls upon Âruk. This is due to the plain being strewn with the Shards of Takarrûs. These deep red crystals, which are the solidified blood of an angel, radiate an intense fiery glow. The shards range in size from as tall as an ogre to as large as a storm giant. At night, the crystals illuminate the plains with their crimson luminescence. Where the crystals are sparsely distributed, the land remains shadowy and dim.
