The Howling Halls is the domain of werewolves, dire wolves, and normal hounds, as well as holding humanoid livestock in slave pens. One faction of this place is the Howling Marauders. They operate as bandits during the day and ferocious predators at night. Much of their focus is on the heavy traffic passing through the Shadow Rift.
Howling Halls stands as a mighty fortress, constructed long ago by the Umahanbad. They originally named the place Bazundabil, building it over a rich silver mine. To transport this ore back to the markets of Naram-Gunal, caravans had to traverse the dense woodlands of Singarban and Maegorion - a treacherous road plagued by frequent attacks from packs of wolves and leucrotta. These leucrotta are descendants of abyssal-born hounds that fought alongside Demogorgon's armies during the Demon Spawn War. To curb this threat, hunting parties were dispatched to reduce the wolf and demon dog populations. However, the hunters grew overzealous, forming hunting lodges and pursuing the sport rather than predator management. Silvanus, offended by this, violated the rules of The Balance by gifting some of the wolves with the curse of Lycanthropy. Over the next decade, werewolves ran rampant in the forest, infiltrating Bazundabil. On 19 Lunar 1118, a rare celestial event occurred when all of Bal-Kriav's moons were in full phase. Empowered by this quadruple lunar influence, the werewolves proved unstoppable, leading to the downfall of Bazundabil, which has remained under their control ever since.
Today, the Howling Halls are manned by a crack garrison of lycanthropes and dire beast companions. A cadre of shadow giants, acting as assassins and spies, serve the beastly commanders of this location. Numerous caverns and secluded lairs are situated amidst the rugged slopes encircling the Howling Halls. The more feral and reckless werewolves and bandit factions reside within these hidden enclaves.
