Iruk is a valley situated in the northwestern region of Taurelin. Between the years 920 and 1120, a Tendril of the Taurquion forest extended southward into the valley, towards the city of Idril. This development served as a precursor to an elven invasion led by the Rúmil empire. The elven forces engaged in a prolonged conflict with the local dwarves, seeking to disrupt the supply line between Rumaktharga and Fargimdal. The First Kizan War concluded only when the dwarves, rather than sustain a war of attrition, opted to move their supply and trade routes underground. These subterranean passages, known as the Brother Tunnels, became a vital lifeline connecting the dwarven Clans to their isolated holds in the Kizan valley.
At the conclusion of the First Kizan War, Rúmil withdrew her troops from Iruk. This strategic maneuver was necessitated by military circumstances, as Rúmil's forces were unable to maintain control of a region menaced by enemy positions situated on higher ground to the west in the Gakhs and to the east in Kizan.
Even though it may take centuries, the ambition of those orchestrating the movements of the Tendrils, the Angrods, is to unite the Iruk Tendril with the Tulandur Tendril. This would then encircle, or ensnare, Rumaktharga. The resilient, hardy populace of Rumaktharga do not perceive the Tendrils as a menace, but rather as a source of valuable lumber. They have established lumber mills throughout the valley, with such facilities often constructed as compact fortresses, themselves connected to the Kizan Line.
