Kedmaer is an exceptionally temperate lake situated in the elevated regions of Olmi Hjark. Resting at an impressive elevation of 16,500 feet, it stands as the loftiest lake within this rugged mountain range. This body of water derives its moniker from a fire control specialist who conceived the notion of thawing the surrounding icy expanse.

The area now known as Kedmaer was once the southern edge of the Anzar Glacier. During the Ice Pillar War (14 - 31), battles raged across the broken ice a dozen times. Each time, the legions of the Hofthorm were pushed out of Anzar, which the Glangveif's defenders considered to be lands blessed by Thyrm. In the Battle of Kedmaer, the attackers devised a daring plan. Using a formidable siege engine designed for plunging fire, a fire giant siege crew launched an Ember of Tosgerd on a high trajectory. It came down in the glacier, two miles from the great walls of Haugald. The ice fields and tunnels that had greatly aided the defenders began to melt, becoming slushy, and the lower levels started to flood. Haugald, with its ten glacier complexes, suffered heavy flooding. After seven months of melting, a lake had formed. Hofthorm, a respectable naval power of the Nermanis Sea, initiated a major portage, moving barges and ships up the ice of Anzar to the newly formed lake. The final act of the Ice Pillar War was the Siege of Haugald, a naval attack across the waters of Lake Kedmaer against the capital of Glangveif.

The ember of Tosgerd remains submerged at the base of this lake. Its presence maintains the water's warmth throughout the year, precluding any possibility of the lake freezing over through natural or magical forces.

In the Second Epoch, the Orchish Empire covertly conducted naval exercises on this lake, planning for the day when they would gain access to the Core Sea (cf. Core Offensive). The city has since diminished in significance since the orcs secured access to the Core Sea. At the southern extremity of this unnaturally temperate lake lies the ancient, giant-constructed city of Haugald.
