The Orchish Empire had been landlocked until the year 1760. The objective of the Core Offensive was to secure a land corridor extending from Hrornskar to the Core Sea.
During the push to reach the sea, the Fograth, Orchish Empire ground forces, clashed with those in their path. Blessed with exceptional mobility and resilience, the Jara posed an ever-present threat. Another formidable group were the numerous Forstneblin tribes entrenched within the Quellestir Forest. Employing guerrilla tactics refined over centuries of warfare with the Jara, they presented the most immediate concern. Gradually, and at immense cost, the Forstneblin were pushed deeper into the forest, where they fortified their positions, utilizing their expansive underground warrens to launch surprise attacks.
The Fograth also had to contend with a tower belching molten rock situated in Midrurgrune. The fire giants of Farengrath derived amusement from bombarding the troop movements. Beleaguered and withstanding ten attacks, Midrurgrune was ultimately captured after a squad of special operatives infiltrated the stronghold. In 1750, the minor state of Farengrath was overthrown following the elimination of its leadership.
While the advance over land was underway, the Orchish Empire was engaged in constructing a canal from Lake Virgath to the fens of Mazob. Channels were excavated, and then extended along the river northward to the Core Sea. By 1759, the Orchish Empire had established a fledgling navy on this sea. They occupied the coastal ruins of Rabaranda, rebuilding and renaming it Moglúr, after the general who oversaw the Core Offensive.
The Orchish Empire relinquished the land corridor through the forest upon the signing of the Treaty of Quellestir. In exchange, the Forstneblin, a scattered populace inhabiting the region, concurred to cease hostilities and permit transit along the VMC all the way to the Core Sea.
