Midrurgrune was originally constructed as a small fortification by hobgoblins. Within one of the fortress's oldest chambers, they left stone etchings detailing its early construction. Over the course of time, the site changed ownership numerous times, expanding in size with each new group that took control. Today, Midrurgrune stands as a formidable bastion situated on the southern slopes of Tîrbalzôn. Its extensive walls and towers, crafted from lava stone and warded with powerful defensive spells, have withstood countless assaults by hordes of jara, the Orchish Empire, and even bombardment by the devastating city-destroying weapon known as the Hand of Gith.

The cavernous chambers within this immense, dragon-scaled citadel once sheltered a population of 20,000 or more humanoids, giants, and other beings. For three decades, King Sootsmear presided over this colossal fortress. While enjoying a pleasure ride atop a giant roc, Sootsmear was ambushed and slain by the dragons Staticikana and Rubicon. These two wyrms then seized control of Midrurgrune, subsequently establishing it as the capital of the Farengrath empire.

When Midrurgrune fell during the Core Offensive (1749 - 1760), the diminutive state of Farengrath also succumbed.

The fallen kingdom of Farengrath is now home to the various factions residing in Midrurgrune. The most formidable of these is led by Master Death Ball, an elder beholder who commands no fewer than 15 death tyrants. The most powerful military forces stationed in the region are the elite Grathirgim.
