In 1454, a female blue dragon named Staticikana and a male red dragon named Rubicon encountered each other on the slopes of Tîrbalzôn. Initially, the formidable creatures were at odds, each apprehensive of the other's greed. However, as they faced the looming threat of the Jara Hordes together, the two dragons forged an alliance. After many battles side by side, a friendship blossomed, eventually transforming into a profound love.
Over the passing centuries, their power steadily grew. The dragons were a shrewd duo; they never overtly threatened the Khazarkar Empire to the east or the Orchish Empire in the south.
As the dragons aged, agents of Vith Alok, led by Drog'paagol, extended the pair an offer of immortality, unburdened by the constraints of aging, slumber, or sustenance. This arrangement would enable the mighty wyrms to concentrate solely on the paramount pursuits of magic, dominance, and affluence. The pair accepted Vith Alok's proposal, relinquishing their life force in exchange for negative energy, transforming into dragon liches.
In addition to acquiring the formidable powers associated with becoming a dracolich, the couple endured a touch of madness, declaring themselves king and queen. They vanquished the fire giant King Sootsmear and claimed his lands and fortress. The pair decreed that all subjects within their flight range in a single day were to serve the crown and remit taxes. They were commonly referred to as the Court of Fire Lightning, yet had previously styled themselves the sovereigns of the Farengrath kingdom, a name honoring Rubicon's progenitor.
During the Core Offensive, the Khazarkar Empire bribed the Court of Fire Lightning. The Khazarkar Empire paid the King and Queen a sum of 1,000,000 gold pieces each to slow or halt the advance of the Orchish Empire. Weary of the raiding and guerrilla tactics of Farengrath, the Orchish Empire decided to put an end to this threat. They assaulted Sootsmear fortress numerous times, only sacking the place after crack commandos infiltrated the palace and eliminated the top leaders. Leaving the area to the squabbling factions, the armies of the Orchish Empire continued their push toward the Core Sea.
