The Tragaran colonists established Lanirûk after departing from Gatiranda, espousing their beliefs in the superiority of Tragaran culture and civilization. They aimed to impart enlightenment upon the "lesser" peoples. Lanirûk was constructed as a permanent mission station. After the mission work eventually lost momentum a century later, Lanirûk had transformed into a powerful city-state with its own autonomous government.

In 790, Lanirûk assumed the role of capital for the newly established Borillisk Empire.

The once-thriving Lanirûk was abandoned during the Hedrac War. This conflict with the First Khazarar Empire blocked the mountain passes into the valley and gradually pushed Borillisk's people towards Lanirûk. The fighting, combined with the devastation wrought by the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203), compelled the Borillisk to seek a new home. Many fled to Moharr, where they were rescued by Niratar civilian and military ships tasked with assisting their fellow Tragarans. By 999, the Borillisk government and a significant portion of their population had departed Gulimbor.

Lanirûk is situated at the northern extremity of the Hedrac valley, where it converges with Lake Girrun'nâth. When the Sceptre of Phenul-Tamrâk was annihilated, the Hedrac valley floor and numerous of its antiquities were subsumed by the unnatural, expanding Barândîr glacier. Only the tallest ruined spires of Lanirûk protrude through this glacier.
