The Sorrow Road commences at the eastern gates of Paradomea City. It then proceeds northward to Bathor. Travelers can either pass through the city or opt for a more circuitous route around it, continuing northward into Gwaeldior. Within this forest, the road divides. The northeastern path is known as the Black Athroond, an overgrown trail ventured upon only by the bold. The northern road persists through the Gwaeldior woodlands, where it meets the Foronir river. At this juncture of road and river lies a small elven village called Súlamairë. From this settlement, a ferry can transport travelers across to the elven city of Celebriän. The Sorrow Road continues northward, following the course of the Foronir before cutting into the Gathol Hills. Passing the ruins of Strumpktar, the road forks, with the primary route heading north into the Sorrow Pass, while the northeastern fork marks the beginning of the Path of Tryrreid.
In the Laucentar forest, the path diverges at the Mazandabad Bridge. The northern route is the Sarmarg Road. The Sorrow Road continues westward towards the Storsald Mountains, then forks into a western road and a southwestern road. The western route is designated as Surturs Torch. The main axis of the Sorrow Road extends southward out of the Laucentar forest into the valley of Khilag-Tarkin, ultimately terminating at Gadyan. Continuing westward from this hallowed bastion, the road is known as the Holy Passage.
