Urgalroth is an ancient fortification nestled within the perilous wetlands of Ilorath. Constructed during the Horgon Era by a Durkoth named Rereth, this stronghold gained notoriety during the (995 HE - 1355 HE) period known as the Durkoth Descent. Seeking to halt the physical transformation overtaking his kind, Rereth utilized the ancient knowledge contained within the Book of Orinite to transform himself into a disturbing hybrid of flesh and golem. His experimentation, which spanned nearly a year, saw him progress from a Durkoth to a half-flesh golem and ultimately a half-stone golem. Tragically, Rereth resorted to capturing his own people to serve as subjects in these grisly transformations.

Before Rereth could turn his attention to reshaping himself, he first had to construct a standard golem specimen. Traditional golems necessitate a soul to power their operation. Over the course of six months, Rereth achieved a successful experiment, yet in the process, numerous souls were drawn to this realm, only to depart the labs of Urgalroth when they found no suitable host. These hapless spirits became stranded in this realm, eternally awaiting an opportunity for inhabitation. With the passage of time, these lost souls descended into madness, with some growing vengeful and others seemingly lost in their own dreamlike reveries.

- Zarilangian, the esteemed 3rd Seer of the Magis Institute, delivered a captivating "Golem Lecture" that captivated audiences with its profound insights.

The vengeful spirits prompted Rereth to enhance the defenses around his cavernous laboratories. These reinforcements were achieved solely with the aid of iron golems, stone golems, and flesh golems of his own creation. Rereth's journals make no reference to other half-golem Durkoth that he undoubtedly fabricated. Given the inherent nature of such a transformation, it is conceivable that he perceived them as a menace and eliminated them.

Rereth named his stronghold Urgalroth, supposedly after his first successful half-golem creation Initially, Urgalroth comprised a tower over his laboratories and a circular fortification surrounding it Following the completion of the first ring of walls and towers, the final entry in Rereth's journal states:

The fortified walls and soaring towers prove ineffectual against their relentless onslaught, as they effortlessly exploit even the smallest cracks and openings. The towering golems, once thought to be invincible guardians, appear powerless in their presence, perhaps even inadvertently aiding the enemy through their inaction. The end draws near, an inescapable reckoning that I, having endured three centuries as a half-golem, must now confront, no matter the sins of my past.

Rereth, from Rereth's 17th Journal, "End is Nigh" The end draws ever nearer, a dark shadow creeping across the land. I sense a disturbance in the ancient ley lines, a disruption in the natural flow of power that has sustained our world for eons. The signs are all there - strange weather patterns, unnatural wildlife migrations, and whispers of dire events to come. My research leads me to an abandoned temple deep in the Blighted Peaks. There, inscribed on crumbling stone, I have discovered an ancient prophecy that speaks of a great reckoning. A cataclysmic event that will shatter the very foundations of our reality. I must act quickly to unravel this mystery and find a way to avert the looming disaster. The fate of all we hold dear hangs in the balance. Time is running short, and I fear the end may truly be nigh.

The demise of Rereth did not halt the construction at Urgalroth. The golems relentlessly continued to expand outward, erecting successive rings of towers and defenses, each one towering higher than the last. The building efforts did not cease until all the golems were eliminated, whether through mishaps, being lost to the swamp, or being vanquished by something more formidable. Those golems not utterly destroyed were buried beneath walls or employed as fill for fortifications, and those abandoned as the structures delved deeper into the swamp gradually sank into the mud, eventually becoming consumed by the waters and vegetation over the course of months and years.

Urgalroth was constructed using mottled green stone prevalent in the Highlands bordering the northern edge of Ilorath. This stone is commonly referred to as Urgalroth Stone. The castle features sixteen rings of walls and towers, with the outer ring still unfinished. This outer ring measures five miles in diameter - if completed, it would have featured walls three hundred feet high and towers ranging from one hundred to one hundred and fifty feet taller. Some have speculated that the sheer scale of this fortification would have been impossible for constructs to build independently without guidance, leading to the conjecture that they were following Thyrm's Blueprints. The Bloodbeards maintain trade relations with the castle's current owner, who has informed them that the Book of Orinite was instrumental in guiding their construction efforts.

In the year 1280, the night hag Thryunkian established Urgalroth as her domain. Her contingent includes multiple black dragons, scores of trolls and trollhounds, several crimson deaths, as well as vampires and werewolves.

The fortifications and surrounding wetlands in the 1800s were frequently inundated with torrential downpours and swarming insects This phenomenon is believed to be the consequence of an alliance forged with Black Wood, the self-proclaimed sovereign of Maegorion
