Caesinsjach, a legendary green dragon and acclaimed Sentient Creationist, brought forth the first Kobold. He christened this progenitor of a novel race, Pruzaan Aar, which translates from Draconic to "best servant"; a millennia later, Pruzaan Aar acquired a fresh appellation, succeeding in vanquishing a formidable demon lord, he assumed its moniker, becoming more recognized at present as Kurtulmak.
While he tended to Caesinsjach's needs, Pruzaan Aar schemed for escape and the downfall of his creator and master. Among the things he discovered in Caesinsjach's sprawling lair was a nearly depleted life forge. He utilized this in secret to produce more kobolds like himself, then discreetly integrated them with those Caesinsjach had created after making him. Caesinsjach appears to have been aware of his machinations and even found amusement in his plotting. Though highly intelligent, it seems Kurtulmak outsmarted her, for she was compelled to free the kobolds. The majority departed with Kurtulmak.
In 4566 DE, Caesinsjach's native planet of Vu Kes was ravaged by the Nine-Tongued Worm. Tragically, the entire population, including Caesinsjach and her loyal kobolds, was eradicated.
Those who departed with Kurtulmak journeyed to Bal-Kriav. While kobold legends claim it was Kurtulmak's mighty sorcery that secured their safety, in reality their escape route was orchestrated by Bruh Kreniik. He conjured an intra-system rift that transported them to a realm then known solely as Sphere 411, which became their new abode.
Kurtulmak imparted to them the art of subsisting upon the labor of others - the skills of theft, plundering, and ravaging. The sole benevolent gift he appears to have conferred upon them is their expertise in mining and engineering.

Kobolds are dispersed throughout the realm of Bal-Kriav. Their most substantial populations reside in the Aerie of Dragons.
Kobolds are skilled miners, rivaling dwarves in most regards. The majority of kobold societies venerate Kurtulmak.
