In the Battle of Šadullu ( 1501 DE ) , the Covenant general Ptah engaged an entire army of storm archons. Alone, he confronted both the army and their leader, the primordial thinker Eysveig. When this primordial army breached Ptah's sky citadel Tiwa'erra, his trap was triggered. Ptah released the field containing all the psychic energy stored in the bastion's walls. This caused the energy to implode inward, then reverberate back from Tiwa'erra's core, resulting in the phenomenon now known as the Ink Sphere. All of this is believed to have been the consequence of Ptah's use of a psionic power called Split Time .
The phenomenon of time-splitting, where one timeline is divided into two and then reunited, has been documented in a handful of instances. Even the smallest such occurrence can have devastating consequences. Ptah annihilated Tiwa'erra by wielding this ability, and the Lith-Crillion employed it to similarly impact the Womb of Entropy.
