The Allof Stond War erupted due to the exorbitant trade tolls levied by Megrlof on traffic transiting between the surface and the Underdark. At that time, Megrlof's fire giants commanded the Inyon'van passage, a crucial commercial artery connecting the surface metropolis of Andrithiach to the Underdark city of Hlothrabatta.
Since Megrlof remained reluctant to sign more equitable trade accords, the Melephaeusa and the Hlothrabatta city-state united their forces, waging war against Megrlof's fire giants.
In 467, Megrlof faced a devastating blow when they were cut off from the lava river Ofli Hrolmir. This occurred after the mines south of Allof Stond were collapsed over the lava tube. Melephaeusan wizards then cast permanent spells on the area to prevent the lava from burning through and deter any intruders from clearing the collapse. Within months, the lava lake cooled, allowing the enemy's superior numbers to march across the obsidian and lava stone lake bed and assault Megrlof's fortifications. Once the lava had hardened, the defenses originally built with the lava lake as support were easily undermined, leading to Megrlof's downfall.
On 9 War March 470, the Inyon'van Agreement was ratified. As an integral component of this peace accord, the fortified stronghold of Megrlof had to be vacated. Consequently, the majority of the bastion's inhabitants journeyed southward to the settlements of Trelshum and Thrammaer, dispersing as refugees throughout the diverse regional enclaves.
In the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203), one of the spells that precipitated the collapse morphed into something unprecedented. This transformation led to the formation of an area of ice that, despite its resistance to the flow of lava, is searing to the touch, akin to the molten river bordering its southern flank.
