In the 17th century, tracks were being laid for the Tarbhunarâg Line. This was the third spoke of the Kibar-Kûn, a rail network destined to link all of the region's great dwarven holds. The Tarbhunarâg Line commenced at Bolnalmak, then ventured northward towards Tarbhunarâg. Across untamed lands, sometimes claimed by wild tribes or intelligent creatures, the endeavor was slow, expensive and perilous. The Tarbhunarâg Line was projected to be exceedingly costly, with investors not anticipated to see a return for nearly a decade. Consequently, few were willing to back the project, resulting in insufficient security forces for the work crews. The company behind Kibar-Kûn and its spokes, Phorngoad Rail, made a business decision to instigate a conflict, in the hopes of generating a national demand for the Tarbhunarâg Line.
Fighting commenced with intense logging in the Gwaellurth. North of the Fargimdal capital Bolnalmak, the timber from this forest was essential for constructing train tracks, bridges, living areas, new towns, and fueling the great hungry armored locomotives of Phorngoad Rail. Beledhwindor, an elven city of the Rúmil Empire, took offense with the reckless and, by their laws, illegal clear-cutting practices. They were already dismayed by the haze of smoke blanketing the Clan cities. Now, with each passing year, they witnessed more and more of it being transported across the land in noisy, soot-belching iron behemoths. Following the standard Rúmil diplomatic doctrine, they resorted to combat before initiating diplomatic discussions. Phorngoad Rail, influential in Fargimdal politics, prolonged the war through their actions. They were not alone, as Fargimdal's generals yearned for another conflict, for it was how they attained status and honor. Other groups could also reap substantial profits by feeding a ravenous war. In the war's second year, a large bloc voted to protect and support the Tarbhunarâg Line. Phorngoad Rail possessed some of the finest legal and accounting experts in the land. They intertwined the logging company in Gwaellurth with the Tarbhunarâg Line Company, making it arduous for Fargimdal to extricate itself from the conflict. Fortunately for both sides, the war concluded with the birth of a deity.
One of the most renowned heroes of this war was a wood elf named Aredhel. No ally of Rúmil, she was here to battle the ongoing ecological devastation. Perhaps one of the land's most renowned Nature Protectorates, she perished alongside thousands of others. Upon her final mortal breath, she Ascended to godhood. This divine occurrence, a miracle, bestowed Gwaellurth's plant life with remarkable regeneration. This blessing is a potent regrowth magic that manifests monthly. Any trees or vegetation that have been destroyed regrow over the following weeks. As a result, Fargimdal's lumber companies now possess a replenishing timber resource, reducing conflict with their neighbors. The Peace of Aredhel was signed on 17 Bliss 1685, concluding fifteen years of conflict.
