In 1245, the then mortal Aredhel established the guild of Nature Protectorates. The "Nature Protectorates" are the preeminent druids of a specific region. They hold the responsibility of monitoring nature and the powers that reside within their respective domain. Assisting these leading druids are numerous other druids, rangers, and creatures that aid in safeguarding and gathering intelligence for their Nature Protectorate leader. The druids often provide aid to the people of their land, such as forecasting weather for farmers, ending droughts, and curbing the actions of wilder druids who do not adhere to the path of The Balance.
The Nature Protectorates convene annually to deliberate upon their respective regions and other druidic affairs. This gathering is known as the Glade Summit.
The druids of this guild oppose all aspects of Dark Nature. In 1795, a survey of Maegorion was conducted by the Nature Protectorate Ararthand, which prompted an ongoing investigation and monitoring of this Dark Timber Migration.
The Protectorates are also opposed to Cheldremn's radical environmentalists and their ambition to artificially expand forests, fulfilling their perspective on the Principle of Unfettered Nature.
Most druids adamantly oppose tampering with the Web of Magic. They are not attuned to arcane energy as mages are, but they are well-versed in its devastating potential based on the historical accounts of Gulimbor and the Gulimbor Catacylsm, as well as the narrative of the redeemed druid Sakazrân.
The Nature Protectorates did not have Underdark representatives until the latter stages of the Third Epoch. In 1831, a Svirfneblin named Chisel Shinszelmoggit was appointed as the inaugural Underdark Nature Protectorate.
In the year 1751, Ararthand, the Nature Protectorate of Cinazan, was assassinated by government agents of the Khazarkar Empire. The Amigar Incident culminated in a Regional Censure of Cinazan, rendering the region ineligible for the appointment of an authorized Nature Protectorate for fifty years.
