Bâlê was the primary settlement established by the minotaurs who fled the upheavals of Gulimbor during the Great Minotaur Revolt (785–796). It served as the capital of Ba'lith until political centralization transferred the seat to Merorarg in 945.
The toponym Bâlê originates from Nidurrâb and is commonly interpreted as denoting "freedom"; scholars debate whether this appellation was a triumphant commemoration of emancipation from the First Khazarkar Empire or a veiled affront to former overlords (Ermikel the Balance, "Freedom Slight").
Located adjacent to the Hive region, the formidable garrison of Bâlê hosts a multi-racial soldiery—including minotaurs, hobgoblins, bugbears, and skilled mercenary auhjeen—who are adept at countering periodic Hive Swarm incursions. The defensive works have been adapted over successive recaptures into complex mazes and barriers that funnel swarm attacks; hundreds of knell cannons line the walls, and the southern fortifications integrate seamlessly with the great Moralak wall.
