Built by storm giants who had served under Thjorygg, Heirgurd is situated along the shores of a sunken sea lake. Flanked by sheer cliff walls topping out at 5,200 feet along the northern rim, Heirgurd originated as a camp for those laboring in a marble quarry. White and green striated marble was transported by cranes and lifts, then sent overland to the palatial cliff homes dotting the Sunder Isles. Transport was expedited after a channel was expanded eastward to the sea, enabling the use of barges to move the marble to the nearby islands and even further along the coasts to the halfling buyers of the Seven Vales.
In 1682 LC, Heirgurd and other regions of the Sunder Isles were beset by the Thraedli. This ancient bloodline of Eldritch Giants commanded dozens of ships and legions of loyal followers. While many viewed them as mere raiders, their true aim was more profound - a deep fascination with items of magic and ancient lore. Seeking the storm giants' knowledge of weather control and lightning magic, the Thraedli and their private navies engaged in prolonged conflict with the people of the Sunder Isles. This two-decade-long struggle came to an end when a Thraedli daughter married the renowned storm giant captain, Thjorygg. This union facilitated the transfer of magical knowledge without either side admitting defeat. The ensuing peace along the coasts, extending for thousands of miles to MiradalĂȘth, ushered in a new era of prosperous commerce. An increasing number of Eldritch settled in Heirgurd, many abandoning their old ways of plunder in favor of farming and fishing, and serving the community through the Brotherhood of Thjorygg - the embryonic Church of Thjorygg.
