Skarn commenced as a mobile citadel propelled by the same type of engine utilized in Ebethords Crawler. The group behind Skarn's construction were a nefarious collective, willing to exploit their own kind to power a formidable war apparatus. Numerous Rilirthadians viewed this sect as more reprehensible than the Sussgurd; who, as Drachmon once opined, "at least possessed the decency to subjugate others instead of their own people."
In 1315, while on maneuvers, control of this mobile fortress was lost. The earth elementals powering the device took over, walking the war engine far from Rilirthad lands. Near the Spinnaker river, Skarn's commander breached the seal containing the device's trapped elementals. Unlike what occurred with Ebethords Crawler, Skarn was equipped with precautions for such an event; instead of releasing the trapped, it killed them. This brought an end to the device as a mobile fortress. It settled down in a muddy area, sinking a few feet before hitting bedrock. Though now distant from their home and cut off from supplies, Skarn was not abandoned. It grew rapidly in the decades that followed, its presence an ominous threat to the people of Agibandal and Tigošal.
By the start of the Ivory Dao War, Skarn had blossomed into a heavily fortified town of nearly 20,000 Rilirthadians. Its remoteness from Rilirthad's core holdings rendered it a vulnerable target. In 1427, it was seized by Ivory Asylum. As the Ethâr were the primary combatants and their proximity to Tigošal, they were granted control of the city.
The city's architecture is reminiscent of other Rilirthad's holds. The sole additions made by the new owners are the imposing statues of elephants atop the largest of the city's ziggurats. Designated the Scorn Statues, they were erected as a deliberate affront to the previous proprietors.
The prestigious learning center Irastâmâz is situated in Skarn, a place renowned for its expertise in fungi, herbs, and plants under the governance of Elderaunt. The city is also acclaimed for its skilled glass blowers, with the wealthier structures adorned with some of the most exquisite glass windows in the known realm. Many of Irastâmâz's botanical gardens boast roofs fashioned from elemental hardened glass.
