In the Horgon Era, hundreds of vampires serving Hlotho Zîn and other blood cults perished in the traversal of an unrelenting desert known as Barba'gom. Scores were lost to sandstorms, buried beneath mounds of sand, or caught in the Holy Rays of Merioss. The survivors of this harrowing journey, upon reaching the abundant lands of Honmin, commenced what became known as the Feeding of Kezgihr; for two centuries, vampires exerted dominion over and sustained themselves upon the populace.

Entire households have fallen under the beguiling ways of these blood-sucking fiends. Farms lie completely untended, overrun by weeds, but at dusk, there is a flurry of movement from children and their parents, with the grace of a cat, like mountain lions when making a kill. I have witnessed them from afar, soaring among the treetops like an owl - lone Gimrune vampires, no more than 10 years of age, taking down an elk and several of them joining the hunt to overpower a dire cave bear. These out in the wilds are wild like the animals, but as they draw closer to civilization, they have grown cunning, blending into the populace and hunting, not to kill, but to feed. The inexperienced vampires often kill their victims from overfeeding; this is the first sign that vampires have infiltrated the area.

Tiyabis, the Warden Hierophant Adept of Silvanus - "Progeny of Kezgihr"

By 1650 HE, vampires had become deeply entrenched in society, controlling entire households through charms or threats, managing businesses and guilds, and occupying high positions in the military and government. The sole group to remain untainted were the Shi'gah. Sequestered within Primus Hexaconta, they spent their days farming and working, but returned to the security of what was once the heart of the Prime Architect at dusk. In 1771 HE, the Shi'gah took the fight to the vampires, and by 1798 HE, they had neutralized the Feeding of Kezgihr.
