The Anzar Sect is a group that considers prayer as a conduit for personal advancement. They posit that the Higher Power yearns for mortal worshipers, and thus more divine power, which serves as a pathway to individual gain for the worshiper. This 'equitable devotion' principle, deemed heretical by most religions, was solidified when Thyrm suggested that the means by which one acquires believers - be it devotion or gold - matters little, as the outcome remains the same.
The core tenet of this organization can be encapsulated as the conviction that if Thyrm aids us, we shall duly revere him. This belief was considered heretical at the time the group was founded. This stance shifted when the organization's leader, a frost giant shaman named Anzar, demonstrated Glangveif's king and retinue the genuine might of her small cadre of fifty adepts. This display of power marked the opening of the Fjorstaki Rift.
The group's origins can be traced back to Anzar. In 609 HE, she was a charismatic site manager overseeing gold mining operations in the upper regions of Ugradrath. Although she was a worshiper of Thyrm, her devotion was not unwavering. Anzar commanded a large following, and her exceptional oratory skills allowed her to sway her people. Agents of Thyrm, seeking to expand his worship and thereby gain more divine power, approached Anzar. They quickly recognized what motivated her: wealth and nationalist sentiment. Seeking to increase his number of followers, Thyrm saw an opportunity to guide Anzar, while also enriching her financially. He led her to a weak point in the Web of Magic, which, if properly harnessed, would open a link between the world of Fimbulwinter and Anzar's home world of Bal-Kriav. The opening of the Fjorstaki Rift allowed a portion of Gjalvar Kjoll to flow into the rift, a condition that persists to this day. Along with the icy mountains, the glacial flow carried pockets of Fimbulwinter Gold. These valuable gold deposits, often deep within the ice, significantly enriched Anzar and helped finance Glangveif's wars. Perhaps more importantly, the practices of the Anzar Sect have become an accepted form of prayer that continues to be observed in various regions across northern Brucrumus.
