In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , Rhynihx served as the chief interrogator and head of the secret police under Asmodeus. Before joining his service, she underwent rigorous vetting through magic and intense questioning, as well as loyalty tests, all done to prevent spies from infiltrating the leadership of the Quara'tun Covenant. Rhynihx boasted an outstanding record of service and exceptional skill in reading people. She proved her worth by rooting out Demon infiltration and spies, yet no one, not even Asmodeus, ever discovered that she was a mole sent by Graz'zt to corrupt the morality of Asmodeus.
Rhynihx was a stunningly charismatic and alluring monadic deva. She became the consort of Asmodeus after rebuffing his advances for two years. Over the subsequent two centuries, they experienced an on-and-off relationship, with Asmodeus persistently returning to her. This dynamic fostered a potent jealousy within him and the initial stages of the corruption of his moral compass. Rhynihx's trickery was often exceptionally subtle, enacted over an extensive duration to avoid arousing suspicion. On one occasion, she allowed herself to be captured and tortured by a pack of demons, later claiming to her rescuers that one had violated her. Asmodeus's rage from this incident was so unbounded that he annihilated the demons and then embarked on a campaign of slaughter. It was during this military campaign that he issued the directive "no quarter," a command that generally deviated from the customary conduct of war by the Quara'tun Covenant.
The belief that Lukoon contributed to the corruption and decline of Asmodeus, though plausible, is insignificant compared to the actions of Rhynihx. She was instrumental in Asmodeus's transformation into a Fallen Angel.
The irony of the entire episode with Rhynihx is that Asmoeus undoubtedly discerned that she was a mole, yet his ardent love and desire for her superseded his principles to act righteously.
Athena, from a Plaque of Aphalur - "Seductive Allure of Rhynihx"
When Asmodeus was exiled to the Ellubôz, Rhynihx committed the error of exhibiting a fleeting grin. This action was observed by Phalgas, who then ordered her surveillance and subsequent interrogation. Despite a thorough investigation, they found no evidence of complicity in Asmodeus's downfall, yet Phalgas remained doubtful.
The loss of a close friend and companion of centuries was met not with tears, but with a grin.
Phalgas, the inquisition of Rhynihx
Unbeknownst to anyone but her, she was pregnant with the seed of Asmodeus. This was her only child with him. During the final days of her pregnancy, her pain was so immense that she feared for her survival. She implored Ares to send her to Nessus. This questionable act by Ares was the final undoing of Rhynihx's moral integrity. Taking advantage of Ares's compassion for his former protégé Asmodeus, she was sent to the Forge Worlds, where she would give birth to a being inevitably corrupted by a wandering evil soul. Rhynihx died in childbirth, giving life to the first Erinyes. Before her passing, she sent a telepathic message to Asmodeus, summoning him to claim his daughter. Upon returning to Nessus, Asmodeus erected a monolithic mausoleum of beaten bronze, a monument to the only thing he had ever loved more than himself.
What has not yet been recounted is the fate of Asmodeus's daughter and first erinyes.
