Believed to have been lost during the tumultuous Creation War ( 1486 DE - 8777 DE ) , the Scrolls of Maen are the esteemed writings of a primordial entity known as Maen Grirngrim. His work delves deeply into the arcane arts of necromancy and the dark paths that enable the draining of life from others, as well as the methods for trapping souls within magical vessels. The scrolls explore the intricate workings of necromancy, detailing optimal casting periods ( Shade of Darkness, Zenith of Darkness ) , the creation of undead minions and their diverse applications, and a myriad of necromantic spells.

In 375 LE, eldritch giant raiders boarded the ghost ship Halatrax. On this vessel, they engaged in combat with undead and other guardians that had remained aboard since the Creation War. Reduced to a mere handful, they departed with relics, books, scrolls, and ornate jewelry. The Scrolls of Maen, filling two trunks, led to the development of a school of necromancy known as Maen Saetild, as well as the rise of Khaa'khas, an organization dedicated to taking Maen Grirngrim's teachings to the extreme.
