Scion Steps, more commonly known by its dragon name Suldaan Mithil, is an immense structure situated near the eastern boundary of the Aerie of Dragons. Constructed during the Dawn Era by a Creationist named Benevolence, this structure encircles the base of a mountain, with walls, battlements, towers, and spires rising in concentric rings to the summit. Within the fortress, there are nine fortresses, each named after one of Benevolence's children. According to legend, Benevolence created this monumental wonder through divine will, the rapidity of its construction limited only by the bounds of his imagination, as a gift to his beloved Kesserine.
Scion Steps was to be Benevolence's crowning achievement on a world then known only as Sphere 411. Once it was complete and inhabited for a mere month, Benevolence and Kesserine planned to depart for the Void, continuing the tasks of Creation - forging life from the energies and substance of Chaos. Kesserine and her spouse spent but a single night together in this place. The very night it was gifted to her, she revealed her true form to her husband as the primordial Kirograne. A monumental battle then ensued between the two across the nine fortresses of Scion Steps, with each summoning armies to combat the other. Yet this conflict concluded in but a day, with Benevolence vanquishing the Betrayer. The battle they fought in Scion Steps wrought devastation upon many areas, and the site was abandoned, left to become a ruin until the next era.
During the First Dragon Wake ( 218 GE - 235 GE ) of the God Era, this location became the headquarters of Tiamat. Under her dominion, it grew better known as Suldaan Mithil. Tiamat had thousands toil to rebuild what had deteriorated into ruin over many centuries. Regrettably, during a time when she should have been focused on battling Bahamut, Tiamat became obsessed with restoring this place. It was not until the damaging air raids by Bahamut's forces that she finally abandoned the rebuilding efforts, fully committing herself to war with her former ally.
By the time of the Angelic Departure ( 270 GE - 274 GE ) , Suldaan Mithil had once again fallen into ruin. Over the subsequent ages, few have managed to hold the place for long. For most occupiers, the sheer scale of the location proves too vast to control entirely. With fortresses built in tiers, each higher than the last and supporting one another through flanking fire, the site is challenging to maintain with a military force. During Tiamat's reign, additional stairs and ramps were constructed, facilitating the movement of soldiers between the nine fortresses.
This place was conjured into existence by a creator deity who had no intention of dwelling here or ever employing it in conflict. It was envisioned as an offering, perhaps even to astound those who would come after, with them beholding it and comprehending that which distinguishes feeble mortals from the divine.
To properly defend Suldaan Mithil, a force of one hundred thousand soldiers is required, an impracticality. The location encompasses an extensive area and is intricate and magnificent in scale, such that anything less than the capabilities of a Creationist would require centuries to construct, potentially exceeding the resources of all but the mightiest empires.
Tiamat, from her volume on Suldaan Mithil, chapter - "Nid Qua Suldaan Mithil"
Today, Suldaan Mithil serves as the abode of dragons, chimera, giants, bandits, and other monstrosities. While numerous explorations have been conducted, the accumulation of adventurer maps indicates that only 20% of Suldaan Mithil has been explored. A handful of courageous adventurers have ventured into Suldaan Mithil in search of the legendary relic of creation, the Volfdir Jollrod, a Primordial relic that is perhaps best left forgotten.
