Gambriath was once a grassland bordered by two swamps and their mountain rivers. During the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), after the Covenant's battle against the demons shifted to distant regions, members of the 9th Deception Wing under Melrith made it their sanctuary. In Covenant records, the 9th DW-M, as they were coded, was a brigade-sized unit of mischievous sprite tricksters, best kept apart from more organized and lawful-minded forces. Ares noted they were most effective at stirring unrest behind enemy lines.

In 845 HE, a migrating goblin horde traversed a northerly route through this woodland, paving the way to the prospective location of Antokepf.

Every night, as Merioss begins to diminish, the sprites emerge intoxicated and confrontational. Skirmishes and pursuits are eclipsed by the abundance of thievery and mischief. Widespread discord ensues, with accusations of larceny, occasionally substantiated as the cunning sprites conceal the pilfered item in the wagon or pack of the accused.

In 869 HE, a necromancer named Kyvile returned to Gambriath. Two decades prior, he had lost his entire family to the sprites. Now a seasoned necromancer, he came back seeking vengeance. He slaughtered nearly a hundred sprites before tiring of the carnage. Before departing, he burned the sprites in a massive funeral pyre, unaware that this violated the sprites' sacrosanct burial practice of allowing the dead to lie where they fell. The wandering soul energy of the deceased sprites pleaded to the gods for retribution. Melrith answered, sending a dozen of them as ghosts, the Lost Fey, to Gambriath. These sprites had hoped for reincarnation into a more formidable form, such as an elder treant, but instead became wisps of negative energy with the power to possess the living. They swiftly overcame Kyvile and his minions. Today, these Lost Fey remain a nuisance for travelers, occasionally taking control of an individual for a few days, playing tricks on other travelers, or behaving in unusual ways.

In addition to mischievous phantom sprites, Gambriath is also home to Dark Treants, roving bands of twig blight, Quickling gangs, and other malevolent fey entities.
