The great jungle swamp of Gurutharni, near the heart of eastern Ma'Ohari, is a place of dense foliage, pools and wetlands. During the rise of the city-state of Rolipoon, the area's water flow came under greater control. By the founding of the first Tragaran nation of the region, Tilnangau (446 LE - 2615 LE), the wetlands around Rolipoon and for miles in all direction had become canals, farmlands, and island homes. For three centuries, the breadbasket of the region, decline came with the capture of Rolipoon in 944 LE. Under the management of the Demon masters of Varelay, corrupt and stained by Entropy herself, the canals fell into disrepair and neglect. As the jungle returned, food production dropped every year. The old canals, now overgrown, became places of rebel activity, those wanting "a free Tilnangau and free Gurutharni."
In the Varelay Upheaval (2608 LE - 16 HE), the desertion of Rolipoon led to the collapse of civilization in the region. After the fall of Varelay, the Gurutharni jungle swamp became the habitat of Yuan-ti, Vedrii, Naga, and those preferring the area's sultry and moist climate.
