The settlement of Kol'taa, its name a simplified version of an Aquan word, was constructed by the Hydrocur. This aquatic people, preferring to reside underwater, built much of the town in the coastal waters adjoining the southern cliffs of Karë. As the population of their Elderaunt increased, the stronghold was expanded to better accommodate those who served them on the surface. Similar to the submerged regions, this surface area was fashioned from living coral.
When the Hydrocur were expelled, Kol'taa languished in a state of desolation for almost five centuries. It became a sanctuary for aquatic abominations, the products of the Hydrocur's futile endeavors with Creation. Towards the end of the First Epoch, Ivory Asylum reclaimed the region. The subterranean sectors of the stronghold were subsequently sealed off.
Kol'taa is a fortified alien settlement resembling a deep-sea fortress. It guards the sea lanes to Acodrix and Ginnoth. The 300-foot-high sea cliffs of this bastion not only render the place virtually impregnable from seaborne assaults, but also extend the firing range of its formidable artillery. Kol'taa's garrison employs squads of stone giants to crew three batteries of Cyclops Harbor Cannons. The most potent weapon in this fortress's arsenal is a long-range artillery piece known as Ole' Faithful.
