Angjald is a grand canyon that begins in the Lands of Purity and terminates in Onvorn. During the Horgon Era, the canyon housed a community of stone giants. They had a sizable settlement along the canyon's northeastern wall known as Sittild. Tragically, an engineering catastrophe resulted in the loss of much of this site in a devastating earthquake. This left behind a region with a few scattered ruined structures and numerous large openings into the cliff face. The stone giants subsequently departed the area for Raganbirak, where their distant ancestors would go on to construct the magnificent Gudgrid dam.

During the preparations leading up to the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551), the Golden Elite constructed a formidable holy fortress situated atop a canyon spur. This bastion, named Thequas, functions as a prominent religious hub for Athena worshipers.

The Scar of Atlas spans approximately fifty miles from east to west, with widths ranging from several hundred feet to a mile near its central region. At its deepest point, where the rays of Merioss illuminate the area only briefly each day, lies the ancient stronghold of Kanzuram. Formerly a Covenant citadel, it is now partially submerged in shadows and smoldering tar.

This canyon has long been the domain of goblins. They are the descendants of the Great Host of the Wyrm, the goblin army that once served Apocalypse at Iglutt. The goblin tribes of the Scar of Atlas include the Black Tongue, Bone Hand, Vulture Sons, Pack Rats, and the Crimson Nails. The largest of these, the Bone Hands, reside in the ruins of Sittild. The Crimson Nails are the second-largest goblin tribe, dwelling at the base of the canyon and responsible for the many small passages leading into Onvorn. This latter group refers to the canyon as the Belly of Tarâk, for since the God Era, they have thrown victims into it as sacrifices to their deity, Tarâk.
