Late in the Lith-Crillion Era, Tragaran colonizers arrived at the northern periphery of Sorfandien and established a fishing settlement. The inaugural family units that commenced operations here belonged exclusively to the Thaoun tribes. These families, who would evolve into a aristocracy, comprised the foundation of what would mature into a thriving city-state featuring a deep harbor dredged by sea giants, water elementals, and other aquatic assistants.

In the First Epoch, Sourm-Gar became the capital of the Cal-Thaoun Dynasty. The city was renowned for its expansive gardens and public parks, even boasting a small forest believed to house dryads that provided counsel, and at times, embarrassment to the government. The most magnificent gardens were those constructed by the Kal-Oni family, which spanned across terraces and up stepped pyramids. It is rumored that the Kal-Oni collaborated with fey, even acquiescing to the lustful desires of the Satyr, in exchange for potent fey magic to enhance their gardens and locate rare plants.

In the Sorfandien War, Sourm-Gar was besieged five times by the First Khazarkar Empire. The attackers never breached Sourm-Gar's formidable lava stone fortifications, engineered by Orias Vual's fire giants. During the final siege, the ongoing Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203) had significantly weakened the Web of Magic. Web weavers of the Conclave, adept at siphoning the Web's arcane energy, opened magical rifts in the city's walls, tearing out large chunks and flinging them about the battlefield indiscriminately, killing both allies and foes. The Conclave had lost control of the summoned magic, adding to the devastation of the Gulimbor Cataclysm. The entire surrounding area soon became a maelstrom of magical storms and fireballs. Ultimately, both defenders and attackers were compelled to abandon the region. In 1016, the last of Cal-Thaous's people were transported north to Hells Womb, where they joined the newly founded Kal-Oni Empire.

Today, the ruins of Sourm-Gar are scarcely more than piles of boulders. Only fragments of the once-mighty lava stone walls still stand. The sewers of the city and the Underdark realm beneath, which housed a sizeable mining pit, remain intact. As no one has visited in ages, the secrets that may lie beneath Sourm-Gar are a mystery.
