The Eldritch Conclave, or Conclave, was established as an institution dedicated to the study of the arcane arts. It was founded in the city of Chal-Kazod.
In 985, a female Khazarkar named Adîlkhâru discovered a way into the Pyramid of Conflict. She obtained several ancient tomes written by the Lith-Crillion. Among these was one called Izrukîn Sa Thir, a volume about the Web of Magic. Utilizing this text, the Eldritch Conclave founded a school to instruct the art of web weaving.
Sakazrân, the institution's founder, and Adîlkhâru both hailed from the esteemed Minâth-Nôrî lineage. Though their families lacked the influence to assume the throne of the First Khazarkar Empire, the Conclave members recognized that monarchical power was determined more by bloodline than by might. As web weavers, the Eldritch Conclave believed they possessed the collective strength to govern the empire and compel other peoples to their will.
In 993, they overthrew the monarchy of the First Khazarkar Empire, replacing it with a magocracy. During the Domination Wars, their reckless use of magic precipitated the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203). This catastrophic event destroyed their homeland of Gulimbor and led to the Great Exodus (998 - 1017).
In 1002, Eldritch Conclave spies learned of an alliance between the priestly sects of the First Khazarkar Empire. The Church of Set and the Church of Kebechet were determined to embark on a religious crusade to overthrow the tyranny of the magocracy government and replace it with a theocracy. To preempt this union, the Eldritch Conclave dispatched an army of golems and elementals into Akann'ndâb. They reduced Miruk-Nalbêth to rubble. As a deterrent to any other rebellious factions within the empire, they massacred all the inhabitants of the city and scorched the land for twenty miles in every direction. Grave dirt golems were then planted amidst the ruins to prevent the area from being resettled.
In 1027, following their defeat in the Eldritch Civil War, the Conclave were barred from operating within the Khazarkar Empire's territories. Consequently, the majority of these rebels journeyed northward into the Fangs of Steirgar, eventually reaching the fiery, mystical shores of Arnergal. There, they sought refuge in a great ruin, employing elementals and slaves to rebuild and expand upon the structure, while preserving its core. Named Malardân after the Conclave's inaugural Eldritch Arch-Mage, this settlement has since served as the organization's headquarters.
After the collapse of Gilraen in 1421, the Conclave witnessed a surge in membership. This was fueled by Gilraen resistance fighters harboring a deep-seated animosity towards the Khazarkar Empire.
In 1831, the Eldritch Conclave covertly allied with the Flux Pact. They joined a sizable conflict known as the Cinazan Front. The Conclave also supplied Entropy Fragments to the Neeth-Theen. It is widely believed that the Eldritch Conclave joined the war with the intent of overthrowing the Pharzîmrâth and reclaiming dominance over the Khazarkar Empire. During the Cinazan Front, the Conclave dispatched numerous agents into the field. Their mission was to hunt down the Maul Seekers - groups of adventurers searching for items that could destroy the Entropy Arch at Sapthiladân. When the Conclave located these *Seekers*, they would interrogate and then eliminate them.
Membership in this organization, whether as a guild member or simply to gain greater knowledge of the arcane arts, is a lifelong commitment. Individuals who attempt to disclose the guild's secrets or seek to depart will be relentlessly pursued and either eliminated or compelled to return for imprisonment. The primary objective of the Eldritch Conclave is the restoration of the magocracy's rule within the Khazarkar Empire.
