On Bal-Kriav, tens of thousands of Azwyr Amoruk inhabit the Ice Cap region. They are descendants of those who once resided in the Abyss. The Azwyr Amoruk are commonly regarded as a chaotic and profoundly malevolent people. Whereas they previously served the frost giants in what was then known as Piranoth's Steps, many of their clans now have frost giants as their subordinates on Bal-Kriav.

In 1561 DE, a Dulun expeditionary force under Danzar-Khâl ventured into Piranoth's Steps. Danzar-Khâl and his Azwyr Amoruk ("Frost Hearts" army) were part of the growing forces of what would eventually become the system-spanning alliance Nawirrûs Covenant. Danzar-Khâl and his crack army went to the world Abyssm to investigate reports of a frost giant mobilization. Stepping through an inter-system rift, they entered something far bigger than they could handle, learning only near the end of their journey that they had arrived at the center of a force gathering for a world assault.

Their numbers were astonishing. Camps, pickets, and even underground dwellings sprawled in every direction as the giants made preparations for war. We spent two days maneuvering and concealing ourselves, an incredible feat given that our force of 1,000 hid like fleas amidst a horde of giants and other brutes numbering over 100 times our own.

Danzar-Khâl, from the book Abyssm Expedition - "Fall of the Azwyr Amoruk"

Out of Danzar-Khâl's force of nearly a thousand, only a few dozen survived. The rest were captured and enslaved by the frost giants. The slaves were forced to labor in mining and crafting armor and weapons for the Creation War. All but the most resilient perished, and those who endured were gradually corrupted by the abyssal energy that would eventually transform all the worlds of Piranoth's Steps. During the Abyssal Release (7777 DE - 8777 DE), a conflict within the Creation War, the frost giants' legions guarding the Azwyr Amoruk were vanquished by a demonic army under Demogorgon. The Azwyr Amoruk, now tainted by abyssal energy and more akin to demons in their thinking than Dulun, pledged their service to this new master. Long afterwards, they rebelled against Demogorgon while he was engaged in another protracted war with Orcus. Most escaped to the mortal world Bal-Kriav, yet thousands remain scattered across the Abyss. Those who came to Bal-Kriav did so with the aid of Miradalêth's eldritch giants, who used tomes recovered from the Lith-Crillion libraries to open an interdimensional rift. On Bal-Kriav, the Azwyr Amoruk did not find the freedom they had been promised. The Saer Erkjorg Empire kept them in check for centuries. As this empire began to falter, the Azwyr Amoruk rebelled, hastening its downfall. Their chaotic and wicked nature could no longer be contained, leading to a series of civil wars that tore the empire apart, leaving its holdings in ruins.

The accursed Azwyr Amoruk endure an unbreakable curse, imposed upon them by the abyssal lord Demogorgon. When an Azwyr Amoruk king, chieftain, or jarl perishes, he transforms into a specter who then hunts his former subjects. Due to this dreadful curse, the Azwyr Amoruk constructed an immense, labyrinthine crypt beneath Khalas, a sepulcher that perpetually expands with the interment of each successive sovereign. This haunted repository is known as Arakkhalgam.

The Azwyr Amoruk of Ice Cap are members of a loosely organized confederation known as Gamakkhazar.
