In the year 1640 DE, the Efreet race was brought into existence by Kossuth, harnessing the fiery energies of Chaos and the vital life force collected by the Life Fan.
In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), the efreet served the primordials as tacticians, advisors, generals, and in other prestigious positions of influence. Given the typically neutral alignment of efreet, like their creator, those who fought in the Creation War often found their morality tested, especially when serving under the more wicked primordials. Those lacking the resolve to remain steadfast became a subtype of efreet known as the Furrouth.
Tens of thousands of the more common neutrally aligned efreeti reside on Bal-Kriav. Those in Gludragh are descendants of mercenary groups that once served the various houses of the City of Brass. They arrived on Bal-Kriav at the behest of the efreeti overlord As'gom Ygathac, who dispatched them to recover a hundred or so escaped djinn – a group that came to be known as the Nitthirân. Following the assassination of As'gom Ygathac, several efreeti houses decided to stake a claim on Bal-Kriav, seeking to exploit the lands and peoples when possible and establish trade with those equal or more powerful than themselves. The Nitthirân have continued to oppose efreeti machinations, never forgiving them for the suffering of their ancestors. Another sizable contingent of efreeti dwell in the Underdark region of Maenedhel, with those in the city of Belfdagny descending from an army that served Kossuth during the Demon Spawn War.
Many of the efreet who permanently reside on Bal-Kriav are no longer classified as outsiders. Through the passage of generations, their connection to Chaos has steadily diminished to the point that most are now regarded as mortals.
