On the eighteenth day of Witchrite in the year 1441 HE, the Titan Empire Aslauthroa established the settlement of Snirthjar. The Aslauthroans constructed it to safeguard the peat deposits of Arnskar. This fossil fuel emerged as a result of the rapid transformation from swampland to desert that occurred in the year 92 HE. This shift from swamp to desert was precipitated by Aslauthroa's deployment of the Weathermaker against their adversaries.
In the Second Epoch, the Khazarkar Empire pushed westward across Cinazan, claiming all that they encountered. In 1155, they built over Snirthjar, renaming the location Mirkathân. They constructed upon the ruins due to the giants having built deep wells into Faeglor. These wells provide a bountiful supply of fresh water for a city surrounded by an arid desert. The city also receives water from the massive aqueducts descending from the western highlands, the Damreth mountains. These aqueducts were built to address disruptions in the city's deep wells, often caused by the actions of Faeglor's subterranean denizens, particularly in the direction of the subterranean city Unvarith.
In the First Ugradrath War (1421 - 1434), out of dire necessity, Mirkathân became a hub of necromantic activity. This was a period when the Khazarkar Empire and the Orchish Empire were embroiled in conflict, their borders converging in the Ugradrath mountains. The recently deceased and long-dead were transported to Mirkathân from across the empire, required to bolster the undead armies needed to confront an equally formidable adversary.
Mirkathân is a Necrohold, the residence of numerous seasoned and aspiring necromancy practitioners. Three rival schools of necromancy - the Batthirân, Maninazân, and the Ulbanizgar - maintain their offices and classrooms across the countless crypts and the ring of pyramids that constitute the city's outer towers.
The southern walls of the city, the Tomb Cordon, gaze upon Tân'ndith. This sepulchral chasm furnishes the mummies, zombies, and skeletons that power the Khazarkar Empire's war machine. This state-operated endeavor of generating the undead is supervised by the military division Imrinôn.
