Gorag'theg rose to power during the Abyssal Release, which spanned the years ( 7777 DE - 8777 DE ) . Initially, he commanded a demon mercenary company tasked with gathering intelligence among their own kind. In the early stages of the conflict between the primordials and the demons, Gorag'theg's mercenaries aided the primordials, but later switched sides, driven by self-interest as primordial dominance waned. The mercenary outfit was then transformed into a specialized light infantry unit, adept in infiltration and swift attacks. During the war, Gorag'theg's wizardly abilities grew significantly, and he ensured that part of the payment for his services included arcane scrolls, spellbooks, and other items of magical purpose.
At the outset of the Abyssal Release, Gorag'theg was a vrock. By the war's conclusion, he had progressed to becoming a myrmyxicus. Upon seizing the world Kurun'Ush and assassinating its previous lord, he claimed the authority of his victim, assuming the mantle of Demon Lord.
On 5 Witchrite 100 GE, Gorag'theg's scientists created the Sôvuk Sea Gate, joining the Demon Spawn War. Gorag'theg led an aquatic army against the mortal world Bal-Kriav. The Sôvuk Sea Gate was a sustained rift linking Kurun'Ush to a tunnel beneath the Bal-Kriav island Torvild. His forces ravaged the Sea of Mourning between Brucrumus and Karertus, all the way to Torvild. They battled the Covenant and the predominantly land-bound minions of a rival demon lord named Orcus, then staked claim to all of the Aerie of Dragons.
